The Tain

We'll begin this blog with an appreciation of Louis le Brocquy who died on the 25th of April this year aged 95. The three pieces we've chosen represent the various stages of le Brocquy's work.
"A Family" was created buring the artist's Grey Period. It portrays a bleak domestic scene, where mother and father appear enervated and dejected. Incontrast a child holds a bouquet of flowers.
"The Tain" comes from a commission le Brocquy was awarded to illustrate Thomas kinsella's rendition of the Tain Bo Cuailnge. Each piece captures the dynamic energy contained in the Irish legend.
"Samuel Beckett" is part of a body of work le Brocquy undertook which in rendering the head captures the very essence of his subject,
